The Famous (and free!) "SallySax Alarm Clock"

This is a small application which you are welcome to download and use. It was written by Pete Manhire in VisualBasic.  It is a tiny clock which will sit on top of whatever you are doing. You can set it either as an alarm clock or as a count down timer. When the target time is reached a picture of your heroes will appear and it will play a short burst of that unmistakable SallySax sound. If that is too rich for you; there are a number of alternative sounds you can select.

The file is quite short (about 300kB) and can be downloaded by RIGHT clicking on the image below...

Select "Save Target As..." and save the file to your hard-drive. Please do not try to run it directly from the net - it automatically saves a tiny file to keep track of where you left it on your screen and would get very confused if it tried to do this online. There is also a small manual which will tell you how to use it - down load this by RIGHT clicking here and selecting "Save Target As..."... MANUAL. If you left click on the link you will probably see the file in your browser which will probably not word wrap. Best not to do that - it is very irritating!  Please let us know what you think - get in touch with us here  enquiries@sallysax.com

Salamander Saxophone Quartet Arrangements

We arrange the vast majority of our repertoire ourselves. We use "Sibelius" - probably the best music program for producing written music there is. If you would like to see an example of our arrangements, read on...

Sibelius has a simple, (FREE!) download called "Scorch" which enables you to see, hear and print arrangements written by Sibelius itself. You will need to download this (it is free and quite small) before you can continue. Go to the Sibelius website (click here www.Sibelius.com ). Look for a link to "Downloads", go there and follow the instructions to download it. We have put a Scorch version of one of our numbers on the site - it is a medley of Caribbean tunes called, rather unimaginatively, "Caribbean Medley". It is quite simple to play but we all rather like it for some reason. Simply click on the following link...

Caribbean Medley (Scorch Version)

If you are a member of a saxophone quartet, own a copy of Sibelius and would like to print the parts out, the Sibelius version can be downloaded here. If you want to know how we do it (and, believe me, we cheat like the blazes) drop us a line and we will give you some handy hints.

Caribbean Medley (Sibelius Version)

If you are a member of a saxophone quartet and fancy getting hold of any of our arrangements, please get in touch via the email address below. We don't sell our arrangements but we are always happy to swap them with any (copyright free) arrangements you might have.

As always, we can be contacted at enquiries@sallysax.com

SallySax Photo Album

We are not very good at remembering to persuade people to take take 'photos of ourselves in action. Here are a few we managed to scrape together...

Here is a picture of us doing what we like best - playing at a wedding reception. Our music stand banners are printed in very reflective material; it looks very good but it makes us the absolute devil to photograph indoors. This was taken in September 2004 in Cambridge by an expert - believe it or not, this is as good as it gets.

An early incarnation of the quartet, with Paul West playing soprano. We are seen here playing at the Wanstead Music Festival in July 2003. Note the bricks on the base of the music stands. These are to prevent the entire quartet flying away in high winds. The weather takes no prisoners in north east London.

Playing the middle set at a JOBB gig at the Heathcote Arms in Leytonstone, northeast London in March 2005. Mercifully, we forget the music stand banners and so you can see us fairly clearly.

Still at the Heathcote Arms; here is Pete talking with his mouth full - he does get over-excited when he's announcing that the next number is a tango.

Recording our first CD at the famous "Back of Beyond" studios in Loughton, Essex. The small picture on the right is our good friend Dan "the Man" Holland doing his stuff.

Links

We will post links to websites of friends, relations, allies and anyone else we decide we want to here. If you would like a link, please get in touch (enquiries@sallysax.com) but be prepared to reciprocate!

Dan's  site. Dan is our friendly sound engineer  (see photos above). Give your ears a treat - listen to the Men from DEL MONTE!

Saxophone Jokes

Everybody seems to know viola or drummer jokes ("What does it mean if a drummer drools out of both sides of his mouth at the same time?" - "The stage is level"/"What is the range of a viola?"-"It depends on how hard you kick it")

Does anybody know any saxophone jokes? Send any good ones to us at enquiries@sallysax.com - if we like them, we'll post them here. Here's two to start with...

It's hardly surprising that there is a problem with air pollution; just think how much of the stuff has passed through a saxophone at some time or another.

Definition of a saxophone - "The ill woodwind that nobody blows good".

"FiddleStix" - Electric Violins, Violas and 'Cellos

Coming Soon!

In the VERY unlikely event that anyone reading this is interested in electric violins, violas, 'cellos etc. you simply MUST visit www.FiddleStixUK.com I have been making electric instruments for about eight years now - find out all about them at this site. And, yes; I really am a viola player.

And finally... the "Retirometer"

Are you coming up to retirement? Are you counting the days? How would you like to count the seconds instead? Download the "Retirometer" and you can watch as the days fly past. Simply enter the date (and time!) of your retirement and The "Retirometer" will count down the days, hours, minutes and SECONDS for you.

Left click to try this out, right click and "Save Target As..." to save it to your hard drive. It always starts with my retirement date (and why not?); change the details to match your retirement date and click on "Go!". Click on the mauve background to close it. Easy, isn't it.
